I get a lot of questions where students share with me that they were unsuccessful in getting into medical school the first time around. I find that the biggest mistake that these students make is submitting the same application as the first time, hoping that the odds will be in their favor the second time around. It won’t be. Many applicants resubmit same exact AMCAS application the second time around. This is a major mistake! Remember that if you are reapplying to the same school they will know that you are a re-applicant, and compare your new application with your old one. When you submit the same personal statement for example, the impression is that nothing has changed about you since your last application. What you really want to do is show the admissions committee that something has changed this time around, that you have grown and matured as a person – that you are now different and better prepared to enter the world of medicine. One key point that needs to shine through is that you’re someone who is persistent, strong, and resilient. You need to show them how you have become a better person and ultimately you will be a better physician. You can do this!!
